It’s time for barn wood signs to declare “It’s Fall Y’all” and bales of straw and gathered bundles of cornstalks to pop up in yards and on porch steps.  Autumn decorating can be fun.  Plain and simple.  While some folks go all out to follow suit in their neighborhood or for expectant company, fall is a fantastic time to add a little bit of “warm welcome” to your home.

A few quick and easy ideas:

Hang a Wreath.  It doesn’t have to be fancy; it just has to meet your style.  Some wreaths are full with bright, fall foliage and others are simply sophisticated with reeds, wheat and twine.  There are plenty of tutorials online for making your own.

Rustic Signs.  Don’t have pallet planks or barn wood handy?  Wal-mart now carries a variety of wooden and chalkboard signs that you can write or paint your own fall phrase – for under $10.

Mason Jars.  We’re in the South.  Mason jars never go out of style.  Paint a jack-o-lantern face on them, tie a ribbon around them, use as a vase on the table, or light your porch steps with little votive candles inside them.

Whatever your decorating tastes, it’s worth the effort.  Isn’t it nice to see a smiling face welcoming you home?  Even if it is a scarecrow’s goofy grin.
